A Reiki Level 1 training course is the first step in the journey of learning the ancient Japanese healing art of Reiki. In this Reiki training event, you will learn the basics of Usui Reiki, including its history, principles, and techniques. This Reiki 1 workshop is approved and accredited by the IPHM.
First Degree Reiki Level 1 Course Length
Reiki used to be taught typically over a longer period time, without manuals. All orally, with very little written down. Naturally, this was reliant on the student’s memory. This was a longer process, as once the training was completed, there was no brochure to refer to.
A Reiki Level 2 student I taught a few years ago, was taught Reiki Level 1 this way in the 1960s. The course was over a weekend with no accompanying written material during the event or to take home. Nowadays, it is common to see Reiki 1 being taught in a day by an experienced Reiki teacher.
So it is about working with the universal energy to allow Reiki healing to occur. For students from the Reiki training to feel they have gained the necessary Reiki 1 knowledge.
Reiki Level 1 Training Course
The Usui Reiki course typically covers the following topics:
- Introduction to Reiki: You will learn about the origins of Reiki and its founder, Mikao Usui. You will also learn about the basic principles of Reiki and how it works.
- Attunement: You will receive an attunement which will enable you to channel Reiki energy.
- Hand positions: You will learn the standard hand positions used in Reiki sessions.
- Self-treatment: You will learn how to give yourself a Reiki treatment
- Treating others: You will learn how to give a Reiki treatment to others. Reiki 1 allows you to treat family members, friends and loved ones. This is useful if, in the future, you wish to learn Reiki Level 2 and become a Reiki Practitioner – heal the general public.
- Ethics: You will learn about the ethical considerations involved in giving Reiki treatments,
- Practice: You will have the opportunity to practice giving Reiki treatments on yourself. If you wish, you can also practice healing another student, with guidance from myself.
By the end of the Reiki 1 day you will be qualified to heal yourself, friends and family. You will also be able to progress to the next level of Reiki training when you feel ready.
Price and Further Information About the Reiki Training Day
Price: It is £115 which covers the training, attunement, accompanying material, qualification and framed certificate. It is £35 non refundable deposit with the remainder payable on the day.
Times: The day starts at 10am and we finish at 5pm.
Location: The Reiki 1 training event is being held in my therapy/training room in Culcheth, Warrington, Cheshire. Previous workshop students have found it easy to get to, as it is near the A580, M62 and M6.
I mainly get students coming from recommendations. Predominately students are from Cheshire, Lancashire, Greater Manchester and the Merseyside areas.

How Long After Reiki 1 to Learn Reiki 2
It is suggested to wait one to three months before learning Reiki Level 2. After the Reiki 1 training day, you are meant to take time to do daily healings on yourself, for a recommended period of 21 days. This is to allow you time to get used to working with the Reiki healing energy. It is a bit like going to the gym, the more you exercise the stronger the muscle gets. Here, the Reiki energy may become stronger too as you get more familiar with it.
Similarly, you could go on an intensive weekend art course. As to be expected, it might not make you art master simply from a weekend. You might learn and gain some qualifications, but you still need the time to practice, develop your gift and natural style.
I believe as a teacher I also have to use some common sense and guidance in Reiki training timings, as every student is different.
Before clients book in for me for a Reiki healing treatment often they may ask when I did my three Reiki training qualifications. The Reiki Federation and IPHM did too. They are expect a time gap. They want someone who has the knowledge and has taken time with their Reiki healing gift.
Reiki and Mental Wellbeing
Students may want to learn Reiki Level 1 to help with their mental wellbeing. They may have been suffering with anxiety, panic attacks, OCD or depression. They may have found after a Reiki treatment, that they have felt soothed and more calmer. Reiki also is ideal as it can be used with any medication a person may be on.
It is normal when with a group of new people, that you will want to be comfortable. I aim to make the Reiki training day as enjoyable as possible. Have a chat with me. Previous students have come earlier, sat near windows, chosen a seat by a door, brought their own cups or favourite blankets. It is what helps you relax, more at ease and more at home.

Please Note: There are three Reiki training levels. You need Reiki Level 1 and then Reiki Level 2 to heal the public. To teach Reiki you need the final Reiki Level 3 qualification for Reiki Master.
